Maruti Suzuki reports zero sales in April for the first time
The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Friday reported zero monthly domestic sales for the first time ever in April due to coronavirus-led nationwide lockdown.
Maruti Suzuki has closed all production facilities from March 22, in compliance with government orders.
As of the current situation, total cases in India cross 35,000 including 1,147 deaths. The lockdown has added more pressure on the country’s auto industry that was struggling with a slowing economy.
The company, however, exported 632 units from Mundra port following the resumption of port operations.
“We’ll start operations whenever we can maintain continuously the production and sell vehicles, which is not possible at this point in time”, said MSI chairman RC Bhargava.
